Exercise to Reduce the Risk of Falls in Elderly

Falls are a significant concern for older adults, often leading to injuries, reduced mobility, and decreased quality of life. However, the good news is that the risk of falls can be significantly reduced through targeted exercise programs.

Focus on exercises that mimic daily activities, such as getting up from a chair, reaching for objects, and walking over obstacles. This helps improve functional strength and coordination.

While exercise is crucial, it's important to consider other factors that contribute to falls:

1) Ensure optimal sensory input for better balance and spatial awareness.

2) Remove tripping hazards and improve lighting in the home environment.

3) Wear supportive, well-fitting shoes with good traction.

4) Certain medications can increase the risk of falls. Consult with a doctor or pharmacist.
